Thank you very much for your information. Our rare situation has fixed itself. My wife was kidnapped in Siberia for a period of about 3 months. She managed to escape her captor with the help of a few of my colleagues. She returned to Canada and now we are on the long road to recovery from this criminal abuse. We have a happy and healthy 10 month old son now who is keeping us and our minds occupied. All is well. It was meant to be, which is why we got married in the first place.

I find it odd that kidnapping and rape are not serious offenses in Russia. Moscow police informed me they will not get involved in a domestic situation until someone is killed. This seems somewhat reactionary and barbaric. It would appear that life is quite cheap in Russia. This is a major reason why we chose to raise our family in Canada.

The Canadian Ambassador to Russia explained to me that this is quite a common occurrence, whereby most women are killed by their captors. The Canadian Embassy was quite doubtful of my wife's safe return, as was I. Thankfully she returned under her own power, and now she is a free Canadian citizen. I've been told that "Time heals old wounds."
